"Last year I moved here with my family from New Jersey, and frankly, I was terrified. I didn’t know anyone, and I feared for my wellbeing as part of the queer community. When I connected with We Are Family (WAF) in South Carolina, they swept me up and ensured that I had a soft place to land. I immediately had access to safe spaces, accepting people, and more resources than I ever could have imagined. WAF is a type of family I hadn’t known before, and in becoming part of it I also learned how much I deserved it. There is a profound impact in belonging in a community of peers: we lean on and learn from each other. The collective impact on queer youth radiates from every space where We Are Family is contributing their magic as an organization, and I couldn’t be more grateful."
